While some people prefer to spend their summers out on the lake or relaxing on a beach, there are those of us who love this time of year simply because it gives us the opportunity to entertain more than ever. Sure, you could make the argument that the November and December are packed with holidays that give you the opportunity to have friends and family over, but space is limited indoors. When summer comes around, you can have over everyone you know, entertaining them inside your home, and you guessed it, in your backyard. In order to do this, however, you need to know how to make your home the most welcoming and fun place for them to spend a lovely summer day.
The first thing you are going to want to ensure is that the grass in your lawn is lush and green. No one wants to spend their day playing lawn games on grass that scratches and irritates their legs and feet. Watering your lawn leading up to your backyard celebration should help to prevent it from becoming dry and less than ideal for outdoor games. Make sure your lawn is getting at least one inch of water either from precipitation or from your sprinkler system each week.
On the other hand, you don’t want your grass to be so long that it comes up to everyone’s knees. We would suggest that you mow your grass two to three days before your event for the best length where your grass is concerned.
Flowers and Shrubs
In general, you want to make sure that your yard looks nice as a whole. With that said, consider planting some flowers in pots around your lawn. Additionally, make sure to give the shrubs in your lawn a trim in the week before your guests are expected to come over.
Walkways and Driveway
If you have invited a lot of people to your home, you want to make sure that finding a place to park is easy for them. It’s always a good idea to advise people of where they should leave their vehicles ahead of time. Additionally, if you want to make sure you won’t be getting dirty looks every time you walk out to your mailbox, it’s a good idea to inform your neighbors that your guests will probably be taking up a good amount of the parking on your street.
While having lighting outside isn’t that important if your backyard celebration is only expected to last until sunset, you’re going to want to have some sort of lighting prepared if you plan on going later than that. Hanging up christmas lights that are not in use currently is always an easy and affordable way to ensure there is proper lighting outside of your home. Additionally, there are plenty of novelty lights that can be purchased online that come in a variety of shapes and themes.
Be sure to prepare for the worst. Do you know what the worst is? Yep, mosquitoes. Be sure to take precautions where pesky mosquitoes are concerned by placing candles or tiki torches that are meant to deter the pests all around your yard.
Lastly, you want to make sure that your guests will have somewhere to take a load off. This means preparing your lawn with chairs, as well as tables if you are planning on serving food.
